Warming up your bike

I've always let my bikes warm up. When EFI first came out, one advantage that people would brag about was that there was no warm up time required...start and go. Well, I suppose, because there wasn't the choke thing to deal with. But I still think a mill should be warmed up because of gaskets,etc. I've never owned an EFI, so I let my bike warm up for a few minutes. I need to choke it to start it when cold, but if I start out with half-choke too long, it will foul plugs a bit. So I warm it up until it almost idles with no choke. Then the choke is off. Otherwise it spits through the carb, etc if I try it too soon. It's probably a good thing I'm usually not in too much of a hurry to take off. I let my car warm up a bit, too. It amazes me in the winter when I see someone crank their cage over, put it into gear and take off.

I won't ride my Evo until the heads (right below the rocker boxes) are warm to the touch. As even though you don't feel like you're getting on it, what's going on inside the heads can't be described as anything but pure violence.

Same here, let it warm up for a few minutes. When I'm leaving work at 11pm it's usually in the low 30's so I sneak out about 5 minutes early so it can warm up while I'm waiting to punch out.

Anything Evo or newer you have to let them warm up , heat expansion is designed in for proper sealing on all the gasketed surfaces . It's also one of the reasons for multi weight oils . I hear the twin cams are much better now than the old evo's , those would blow base & rocker box gasket's fast if didn't warm them first .

I let it warm for a few minutes before hittin the road, being a carbed bike it needs a little warmth so it doesn't sputter. Warms pretty quick even though my last rides were around 40*. I'm never in that much of a hurry heading out, what's a few minutes idling............

I actually warm up my bike when it is warm outside and I really give both of them time to warm up especially in the winter.

I start it and let it warm up while I put on my helmet and gloves, maybe 2 minutes. I than drive slow for about 2 miles. This may be overkill, but it makes me feel better.
