What's involved in painting chrome?

I didn't know this could be done. I have to think about this option now, because I do like the stock wheels a lot. I don't particularly need those thicker spokes but they do look nice.
My husband is gonna freak when we pick our bikes up in spring. I'm not telling him about any of this, LOL. We usually swap bikes a few times during the year, but I have the feeling he won't be wanting to ride my bike anymore after this.........

you could buy new stainless spokes for your bike for less then $100,ea.wheel. have them powder coated what ever color you want, pink.probaly around $100 for all, then have an indy take your wheels off,cut all the old spokes out of the rims, and relace new colored spokes, then put back togeather..for 2-3 hours labor..still would be 5-600 but a lot cheaper then custom wheels..for a chick that bike would be awsome..wish i could build something like that for my wife.. the only problem is i wouldnt be able to sneak it out for a ride anymore..

sand the chrome and clean it.Then use a self-etching primer , it has acid in it and it will actually etch the surface for adhesion . They have it in a spray can to and it works well to. Because of the acid in it do not breath it as any paint.

Powder coating is out :(
Went to a powder coater yesterday and checked out every shade of pink, (there weren't a lot) and none of them are going to work at all.
I sent an email to Ride Wright about this, and his response was he'll send me the spokes, the painter can paint them to match the bike, then send them back and Ride Wright will assemble them.
I guess my next question to Ride Wright will be "are the spokes chrome?"
If they aren't, what would they be, aluminum? If so can that be more easily painted?
What a big deal this has become. But to have my bike light, soft pink and the wheels dark florescent pink isn't going to work.

we do multi color spokes all the time! i did a version of pink on my wifes bobber... it is done with a candy rasberry with a heavy silver base... came out trick.. we would be more than happy to help you out!
we also tear down, blast, coat, and re assemble/true wheels
mine laced with twisted spokes
black with yellow

No smart-alec comments? That leaves me with just one thing to say...
The first guy who says he likes pink, (FastHoss?), might have been talkin about something other than paint/powder coat...
Good luck with the bike! For a chic's ride, it is a looker!
