To me, going back to a chain would be like putting points back in the ignition system, oops, OK, OK, I know, I know, you can carry a file and file points.

Nothing wrong with points. You can get one of those clear covers and watch the lil sparks at night.

I like the looks of chains much better, I do remember when Harley's were not all shiny and clean looking (i was still young back then). My bud, changed to chain with a 250 kit, I like the sound, and look. I do however remember the maintenance and replacement being some work with my dirt bikes. Never had a chained Harley.

It seams to be a common misconception, chains are messy. If you use a cheap non o-ring chain it is true. Non o-ring chains require constant oiling and adjusting. Modern o and x-ring chains require very little maintenance. This is because the rollers have grease sealed inside by the o=ring. When you oil them makes a big deference in how much mess is created. The time to oil is when the chain is hot, after a ride. Then wipe off the excess lube with a rag. O-ring lube is actually a wax designed to quiet the chain more than lubricate. I run a white wall tire on the rear and it doesn't have oily residue on it.

Stop making sense or the MoCo will find you and eliminate you..

Besides, it's a lot more fun when who don't even know what an x-ring chain even is to complain about "oiling" which would do more harm than good... You WAX an X-ring chain because they are sealed and internally lubricated..

I use O-ring on mine and use an O-ring spray every 700 miles or so. I find it needs very little in the way of adjustment and will last a very time if properly cared for.
