REI visit HD vs BMW
Riding in this morning my hands finally got so cold that I had to stop and buy some glove liners for my hands. I pulled in to the REI on my way to work and parked next to BMW bike. As I head in the rider is also in the glove section. Now I had done some research and already knew I was looking for the Smartwool inserts. They are wool and only $18. Works for me. He started up a chat about silk vs some of the new materials and which ones Whicked away moisture etc. The funny part for me is I then noticed he is wearing Nylon Boots, Rain type plastic wind breaker gear on his legs and also a synthetic Jacket. I am standing there in my leather boots, chaps, coat, gloves and wool scarf buying wool gloves.
It just seemed such an obvious difference in tastes that it stood out and made me smile. I wished him luck on choosing which high tech gloves would work best as my wool inserts warmed up my fingers cruising back down the road.

Been a hard core harley man 35+yrs , gave up on leather 20 yrs ago got tired of people trying to steal them all the time not to mention the prices got crazy when the big herd MOCO boom happened with the rest of the sheep having to have " The Fashion Statements" before they could ride .
Top it all off leather is neither water repellent or that warm really . Got a real education into riding gear when I spent 6 weeks running around Europe in less than great weather . Bitch picking up a still dripping wet leather coat that now weighs in around 35lbs that's been hanging all night , you never got warm in that coat .
As stated to each their own but I will suggest if you ride in all weather regular look outside the " box " you'll find much more practical not to mention warmer & cheaper gear to do the job .

I don't wear leather because I am a vegan but ... oh wait a minute, that was a dream I had last night.
It amuses me when people say leather is not warm. No material is warm unless it is heated. Material, including leather, keeps you warm because it traps your body heat. I still prefer leather for riding regardless of who else wears it for fashion, comfort, protection, or whatever. However, I agree that it does get heavy when soaked.
