Default Moving bike to CA

Anybody brought an older bike into Ca to register? Any changes needed before the new law takes effect in 2012?

I'm being told by the dealers there that I can register it without changes.

There's the 7500 odo rule thing. I've got 18,000. I've also got V&H aftermarket pipes.

Thanks

As long as you have over 7500 miles your fine. When I lived there I had to take one down to the dmv and they needed to check the vin. That was all.

Also that 7500 mile rule is only for CA residents buying an out of state bike. If you live in another state and are moving to CA the law does not apply.

What if you were born in Ca. How do they know if your a resident or not if your there for 6 mo then regester your bike? Sounds like there gotta be a way around that rule.

You'll have to do the DMV / Highway patrol VIN number inspection and depending on yr & model it may be subject to the upcoming smog & equipment tests they a are going to start out here in 2012 . If it came with a cat. converter you'll need it here.

Maybe I missed something but I thought SB435? was that the exhuast could not be be changed on 2013 and later model bikes?

I know that smog testing may be in the future but no date has been set.

That was worth the membership fee by itself , sweet . Took a buddy 4 weeks doing the DMV shuffle when he moved back to CA with the same bike he took out 5 yrs earlier .

Damn. I used to go to AAA and do my truck registration. Never knew I could have taken my out of state bike there to get inspected. As far as the exhaust law goes, I read where it was only effecting bikes made after 2013 and it wasn't smog, but EPA stamped exhaust
