Default Anyone Ever Break a Drive Belt?

Saw this post in the Dyna forum: Fat Bob Emergency Drive Belt

Made me wonder - how many forum members have ever broken a drive belt? I've never heard of anyone breaking one. I searched and can't find anything.

I only know of one person who has destroyed a drive belt. He abuses his bike. Everything I read says unless you get a rock into the pulley the belt will outlast the pulleys. I know of several 100,000 mile bikes with the same belt.

I heard of a recall for the first generation of CVO road kings, the ones that came painted with flames, purple and some other color. The factory increased HP snapped the OEM drive belts on guys with heavy wrists. The MoCo replaced the belts with a stronger one.

Other than that, nope, we have heard and seen pics of broken pulleys but no drive belts.

Mimo.

I watched a belt blow up at my local drag strip on a mostly stock bike making a run for giggles. A very unexciting run it was! Felt real bad for the guy pushing his bagger back to the pits.

Default Drive Belt Failure

One of our riders on the Ride Home (105th to Milwaukee) lost his drive belt on his 883 Sportster in Central Illinois. I should mention that he rode the Sportster all the way from Central Mexico. Fortunately, we had a Sag vehicle with us and we were able to load it up and get it to the next HD dealership for a replacement belt.

I broke one on my 02 SERK the second day I had the bike. The teeth on the pulley were worn to an edge and it sliced right through the belt. The dealer put on a new pulley and a new belt at no charge.

I broke a belt coming back from Laconia on the last day of the rally this year. Here is picture for your enjoyment. There was about 14K miles on the belt. I had owned the bike for 6 months at this point. There was no apparent wear and tear on the belt. Rock maybe, who knows. 230 miles from home.

Broke one on a '97 Ultra. Rode off from a traffic light and when I shifted into 2nd gear that sucker just snapped!******* No hard riding either.
