I like sticky
but I don't like gummy

sticky pays off because there's less grip required especially on a long trip and/or if it's extra hot, extra cold or wet

I'm in the same boat as the rest and am interested in the solution. I have owned my bike for eleven years so I probably am due for some new grips.

Well, here is the simple answer. I had the same problem and we all know that spray nine, 409, etc. just compound the problem. My answer is mild dishwashing soap and water. light brushing off the grip, hold towel under neath so you don't get it all over your bike, rinse off gentley and dry them. WA-La clean non sticky grips.....

I had this problem, I drive my bike to and from work and my hands aren't always clean, my solution is to get yourself some MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone), just wipe it on and all the grime wipes off. Kinda like washing your bike with dishsoap, except it's slightly stronger.

MEK - wow I thought that stuff was banned all over the world!! it sure is in the UK.

We use to use it in the printing industry until they found it to be lethal to the health. Guys used to wonder why they always had splitting headaches and really bad skin conditions.

HANDLE WITH CARE!!!!

My answer is mild dishwashing soap and water.
I agree.
I would not use any petroleum based products.

From sticky to slippery, no in between. You can apply a 100% silicone to the rubber and that will keep it from being sticky and won't hurt the rubber but it will now be slippery. Alcohol will clean the rubber of the gummy stuff but it will still get sticky after a while, that's what it's supposed to do.

On the other hand if you ingest enough alcohol, you won't care

The above joke does not advocate or condone riding while under the influence.
