Returned from my Golden Colorado trip
Well I got home ok from my visit to my daughter's in Golden Colorado. Not a completely uneventful trip but I got home in one piece.
I rode my '03 Ultra Classic all of the way to Colorado without a glitch of any kind. Mild to warm weather all of the way. Spent the night in Texline and then on to Golden the next morning. The bike ran fine until I got to the Denver area.
The engine died a couple of times, the RPM's at idle would drop to 500 RPM's for no known reason. It wasn't hot and I wasn't in stop and go traffic. The only thing that changed was the fuel octane that went from 93 octane at 400 feet above sea level where I live to having to buy 90 octane most of the time. I assume it is because of the altitude difference.
The other odd thing was when I was riding around, the oil pressure went to 0 at idle. It never did that at home, even this past summer when it was the hottest weather.
Mike (Hiram) was a very good host while I was there escorted me to Mile High Harley and another dealer in Littleton. I can't remember the name of that dealer but it was the nicest of the 2.
We stopped at a local pub that was putting on a great pig roast. After returning to my daughters house, and parking my bike in her driveway with the security system armed, I started to put the bike in her garage later that evening and the fob would not disarm the security system.
Fortunately, I remembered the personal code but I thought I had left my owners manual at home and wasn't sure as to the sequence using the turn signal switches to disarm it. I did finally get lucky and discover my owner manual in the bottom of my bag.
After leaving the Denver area, and by the time I got to New Mexico state line on my first stop on the way home, the Ultra was running fine and had no more idle issues.
I also forgot to add that I noticed an unusual rattling noise buy the time I got home. It turned out to be the rectifier was bouncing around. The bolts that hold the rectifier on were very loose.
Made the 926 mile and 15 hour return nonstop trip, except for gas and a few pit stops and lots of bugs to clean off.
Thanks Mike for your great hospitallity.

Awesome that your trip went well, darn good thing you were lucky enough to have the security system info with you.
Glad you mentioned that, just one more thing that makes me feel better about not ordering the security system on my (soon to arrive) Superglide.

RE: Returned from my Golden Colorado trip
I'm glad I installed the security system on my Ultra Classic. I'm pretty sure I know what caused it to malfunction.
I wouldn't want this experience to discourage anyone from getting the HD security system.
The ability to disarm the system using the personal code did exactly what it was designed to do. The owner manual indicated that there is a possibility for the security system to get a false signal by using the fob trying to arm or disable the system out of range. This can cause you to have to reset the system to default.
I was only a little nervous because I was away from home and this was the first time this happened. Now that I'm confindent on how to reset the security system the worry is over.

Don't know how to post a link to the thread, but it's in Members meeting Members, thread titled "Cutacrossshorty and me out for a ride".
It was great having you here, give us a call next time you're in town and we'll go to a couple other dealers and shops. Maybe we can even get some of the other forums members to come along. (We probably need to tell them that there will be free food.0

RE: Returned from my Golden Colorado trip
Mike,
Sorry but I don't remember the name of the place but it is a great place to stop for a cool one or two and visiting with a bunch of fellow Harley riders.
That was a heck of a card game going on. It sounding like everyone was having a great time. I wouldn't mind having something like that place here in my home town area.
I've ridden to and through many large city areas but I don't believe I've seen as many motorcycles as I saw in and around the Denver area.
