Harley shipped 30K motorcycles to the Soviets during WW2 to help defeat the Germans. The Russians liked the German BMW design after the war, and they started building a look alike.

Not sure why you call them traitors for selling bikes in Japan before the war. Now the Russian thing, that really did help save the company considering the size of the contact they got from the US government.

Turned out the Russians (Soviets) were not really our friends either. Wonder if there are many of those ww2 harleys restored and still running over in Russia.
