Default Fear as an economic stimulus

Ever stopped to think how many motorcycle-related $$ you spend because you think you need protection from some bad thing that might happen?

Helmets
Armored clothing
Locks
Alarms
Deer whistles
etc etc etc

I didn't count insurance because it's required whether you want it or not.

I don't have a real point to make, this is just something that occured to me as I was scanning the topics this afternoon. It looks like you can make a lot of money if you convince a biker that he/she needs protection from something.

You forgot at least half a grand for a good carry piece & ammo.

I don't carry because I fear anything. I carry because I love my wife and daughter and I don't want to see any harm come their way when I can prevent it.
Carry always, use sparingly.

Actually I did think of that, but that wouldn't be exclusively for riding.

While I don't disagree with your motive, it's still out of a concern (if you prefer that word to "fear") that something bad might happen. And the main idea I was putting forth is that it's this concern that people are using as a way to sell you things.

Only thing I fear is that I'd regret buying my first harley, which is the EG that I presently ride, but......I don't see that happening.

Yep there is an awful lot of money spent on perceived protection.

Actually, some entrepreneurial type might could turn this country's economy around with just these type of products because it seems like all Americans are running scared these days. Scared of terrorists, scared of immigrants, scared of MCs, scared of street gangs, scared of harm, scared of anybody different then themselves.

As someone on this forum has in their sig (more or less); the pussyfication of America has begun. It actually began long ago and raced to full speed following 9/11.

People have a need or want.

A merchant sees that opportunity and makes a product to fulfill it.

Consumer buys the product.

Merchant makes money, consumer gets the product they need.

It's called Capitalism.
