Layers or spend $$$ for heated stuff??!!

Another vote for Gerbings... Jacket and pants...
A typical layer for me on a cold winters day... Long sleeve tee shirt, gerbings jacket and a medium weight wind breaker/jacket... Jeans, gerbings pants and chaps... I may have to spring for some heated gloves someday. For the moment the gloves I have seem to work well enough.

In my opinion it all depends on a few factors
1) Your tolerance to cold
2) Number of days you will be riding below your tolerance to cold
3) The distance you would be traveling in said cold weather
For me most of my cold weather riding is back and forth to work, 15 miles each way, heated gear not worth the coin, and I am pretty tolerable to cold weather, plenty of insulation .
