I stop riding when the temperatures are consistantly freezing. I will continue to ride when the temps are in the high 30's and in the 40's. I wear long johns, 2 pair of socks, t-shirt, flannel, hooded sweatshirt, my leather, balaclava, and heavy gloves. My fingers still get cold. I need heated gloves. Quittin' time is drawing near.

Yes, you can stay relatively warm by layering. However, the biggest advantage of heated gear is that you don't have to dress like the Michelin Man. When you get where you are going, you just take off your heated jacket and you then don't sweat to death being indoors with all those long johns and other layers on?

Ridden in 25* a few times. Layers is the key. Levi's, chaps, then insulated nylon pants over them. T shirt, long sleeve shirt, hoody, then heavy leather on top. Ridden long distances at 40* and the only thing that got cold was my feet. I'll be getting electric socks this year.

Heated gear, lined jeans, & face mask. Cold does not stop me; ice, snow, and salt does. 12* is my record for a 13 mile commute.

Here in Texas we ride year round. Coldest I've ridden in is in the 20's which isn't too bad as long as it's not a long ride and you have the right gear.

Warmer then ~45 I don't wear chaps in the morning to work. Lower then 40 I put on my heated gloves and face mask. The coldest I will ride to work is about 35. All this also depends on how much wind we have. In the fall and winter 35mph is common around here.
