so I'm going to buy a new battery for my 07 street bob. Going with the new JP cycle battery. My question is which battery tender should I buy and will that do the initial charge up on the battery? Any other advice on new battery maintenance would be great too thanks

 

I have Battery Tender Junior -- two of them. I think they are great. Go to the Battery Tender web site and read. They are inexpensive, effective, and simple.

 

Had Great Luck with Tender Jr for years ... Use them on both my Bikes

 

I bought the Harley 65.00 model. The little one that words from the plug in to charge the bike. The Jr they described above is basically the same thing and much cheaper.

 

a new battery will be fully charged..if it's not there's a problem.

 

right I know it will start a bike, but i hear that if you charge it before the first use the battery will last longer. I hear something about if the battery sat on the shelf for awhile it may be at reduced power, say 75% charge and if you use it right away with out that initial charge it will never reach over 75% power. If thats true I am just wondering if the battery tender jr will be able to do that initial charge.

 

I would not do an initial charge with a trickle/maint unit. Get a good batt charger or take it to an auto or motor shop to charge it.

Any battery tender will do an in initial charge, but you may have to leave it on for a day. DO NOT use a battery charger on an AGM (gel) battery. Use ONLY a tender.

 

Believing that is a problem. Batteries should always be charged before using....the slower, the better.

What is cool about this style of a battery is that you don’t have to fill it with acid, it comes out of the box ready to charge. We always suggest that you trickle charge your battery before you install it for a min of 4 to 6 hours on a battery tender or any type of low amp charger.

Putting a new battery in a bike without a trickle charge is a sure way to shorten it's life.
