Default Powdercoating vs. Chrome

Anyone have some of their parts powdercoated? If so, how was the cost roughly? As in, was it cheaper to take your parts off and have them powdercoated rather than buying the chrome equivilent.

Yeah, I know I can call a few local places and ask, but figured I would try here first.

Post pics. if you have them

From what I've seen powder coating is less than half the cost of chroming. I have a buddy that sent 13 pieces off to be coated. The cost was 350 bucks.

I had a bunch of stuff powder coated last winter and it turned out great. It is durable, looks good and is cheap to have done. I used a place called East Coast Powder Coating out of Maryland. I mailed them all the stuff I wanted done and they mailed it back completed. I was real impressed.

PC. I like it. Most of the black on my Shovel was done in '95. It has held up well.

Note though that powder coating adds more thickness and scratches easier than chrome. For example powder coating both the engine guard and highway peg brackets added too much thickness for them to fit together well. And once the pegs went on, they will likely leave a mark when removed.
