fork lock
What's the best way to lube the fork lock? Mine feels a little rough after four straight days of rain and a wash last week. The key doesn't turn and line up with the slots as easily as it did before. I have some lube gel that says it works on locks, hinges, that sort of thing. And I think I've read before to stay away from the WD-40. Anyone know anything? Thanks.

RE: fork lock
We run a motel...have about 50 door locks and various other locks, some get the full outdoor weather treatment.
I used to call in the locksmith every couple of weeks to fix something or other.
She (yes she) was really busy one summer and couldn't come in when I needed her to so she took some time and showed me the basics about lock repair/cleaning.
She swore by Amsoil Metal Protector as a good lubricant for any lock.
She must be right. I've used it on all my vehicles and all my other locks.
I seldom have to get her to service my locks anymore. Many of these are 30 year old Schlage (sp) "bank vault" (what she calls them)exterior door locks.

I use a spray teflon dry lube and then work the keys back and forth in all my locks. Doesn't wash out as easily as graphite.
