I must've skidded at least 60ft.!!!!
I went to visit my kids in Stockton (80 miles away). On the way back home I was passing an intersection in the middle lane. And all of a sudden!!! Some "CAGER!!" comes out of the intersection. and instead of turning into the right (SLOW) lane, He jumps right into the middle lane I was in!!! I applied the brakes before I reach the intersection. And by the time I reach his bumper I was already pass the other side!!! I am very happy and pleased I didn't skid and go sidewards, like all the motorcycles on "CHIP'S" the T.V. show.[] I just pulled to the side of him and then just pulled to the next driveway to cool down. I am very satisfied with my HARLEY DAVIDSON !!!!! To go through something like that, and keeping the "Shiny " side up , is a LIFE EXPERIENCE you'll never forget!!!!
Thanks for letting me vent !!!!

RE: I must've skidded at least 60ft.!!!!
I had a similar experience on my Ultra, except the "offending vehicle" was an ambulance. I was going pretty good as he and I both approached the intersection, he with his lights and siren going. I hit the brakes and skidded pretty good, but stayed upright. In hindsight, I skidded because I hit the back brake too hard and didn't squeeze the front brake enough. The good news was that in the middle of the skid, I remembered that if the rear tire skids, don't release the back brake. All was well that ended well, but I have taken the time to practice my panic stops a lot more.

PS: Glad you did alright, practice for next time.
