Default WOW!! $1000.00 labor to install ape hangers

I called two local dealers & they both were $1000.00+. I think that is high. Do we have anyone in the Chicago area that can handle the job?

There's kids in grade school that could probably handle that job. $1000 is just plain ridiculous.

Look up JRK592 on these boards. I believe he is in the Chi-Town area and could probably point you in the right direction.

For the cost of a case of beer you could probably have a friend come round and install them with you.

It's a labor intensive job. Probably 6-8hrs. That's why I did my own. Not that hard with a service manual, a few tools and the internet. Oh yeah, forgot to mention. 6-8hrs for a tech. 40 hrs for me

I don't know what you're riding, but I did mine in about 12 hours total. That's with ABS and TBW, it would have been much quicker and easier minus that. With the average labor rate around here about 95 bucks an hour, I figured it would be about a grand, so I did it myself.

Yep, I was quoted around 150,000 yen (about $1,850) to have a set of apes installed at the dealer, here in Japan, but that included the price of the bars, wiring harness and cables, so that sounds about right. I have friends who are willing to help me to do it, however. In fact, now I have a sweet deal with an independent builder where, I go and teach him some English for an hour or two every week and I get free labor and/or free instruction on how to work on my bike.
