Bottom line...it is an 8 hour job. So multiply that by the hourly rate and there you go. I did mine myself and can see that it in fact does take that long if you want to run the wires internally. It is not hard to do, but does require patience.

Wow thats insane!

Im called in SC area for ape hanger install prices

2 HD dealers and 1 HD shop

$390
$325
$360

Still a lot of money in my eyes. But found a local member willing to help.

Just go to your state/area section and ask. I did that and have a HDforum member helping me.

A grand to put on ape's? Tell me you guys are kidding me? Even with braided lines, extended clutch cable, stereo wiring, cc, bleeding the brakes, etc thats freakin larceny. My buddy and I put apes on his Heritage ST a few months ago and it wasn't bad at all. He bought all the parts, cables, wiring extensions, and the pizza and beer. 6 hours and that was in a garage, including beer and smoke breaks, total.

It is probably because of liability.
Everyone knows you lose some control with those fool things.

For $1,000 I can buy a complete kit (wires, cables, apes) and pay dealer here and still have money left over.

I hope you told them to go F-off.

That's one of the dumbest things I have read on here in a while.
Spoken like someone who has never ridden with apes, or ridden much at all.
