Default Nubie changing oil and transmission fluid

I have the manuel for maintenance on the Harley 2009 Softail Heritage Classic and it says to remove the oil pan plug and drain the oil. However, only about a cup of oil came out of the drain. Is there another location that I am supposed to drain? The book doesn't mention another location except the oil filter. I removed the oil filter and got a few more ounces out of the engine. I checked the oil before putting up on the jack and the oil level was right at the full mark.

A couple of questions 1) are you sure you have the correct drain plug and 2) did you remove the dip stick prior to draining?

You removed the wrong plug. the correct plug is under the oil tank on the exhaust side of the bike on the frame. Follow the hose down out of the oil tank and you will find it.

No, I'm sure I got the right plug, it is under the oil tank on the exhuast side. The transmission plug is located between the two shock located under the bike. I have left the plug in again for a while na dgot out a few more ounces but that's it. As long as this is the only place to drain the oil, than I'm ok.

Thanks all, I sure appreciate it a lot.

yeah, you might want to double check that. if you checked the oil level before you started and it was full, but you only got a cup out (plus a few more ounces), then you've done something wrong. you should be replacing qts of oil, not ounces......

I agree, should be alot more than that coming out of there - assuming you weren't way low on oil when you started.
