2007 Nightster Blows Fuses
Help?
I just bought a 2007 Nightster off of an individual out of state. The bike had 1,000 miles on it. I have driven it for about 150 miles before I took it in to a Harley dealer for its 1K maintenance and inspection.
When I left the dealership, I traveled for about 15 minutes when the speedo/odo went blank. I turned the bike around, went back to the dealer and they replaced the appropriate fuse and all was well. I rode around that day and parked the bike.
Two days later (did not ride the bike in the interim), the battery fuse blew. I replaced the battery fuse and tightened the positive battery cable, which upon inspection, I found to be very loose.
I rode into work today before daylight and on the way in the speedo fuse blew again. I have lights and blinkers (although blinkers do not blink), but no speedo/odo or alarm system.
Any ideas? Thanks~!

The 15 amp battery fuse goes to the Speedo as you know, the security siren if you have it, and the the TSM/TSSM/HFSM module.
Either one of those has problems or you have an intermittent short.
Also check the two ground connections. They should be under the seat right behind the tank. They need to be tight.

2007 NIGHTSTER fuseBLOW
Hi--No other fuses are blowing EXCEPT the 15A fuse for the instruments and then subsequently (after changing that one) the 15A battery fuse blows. To date, this cycle then repeats.
The main maxi fuse is untouched as well as any others on the fuse block.

Ok now you got more to look at.
The instrument fuse feeds the Fuel gauge assembly, The indicator lamps, and the speedometer.
Un plug the speedometer and see if it will crank and go into gear. All kinds of stuff go and come from the speedo. Not sure if it will run with out it. Have not tried. That seems to be the common between the two fuses.
You need a service manual. It will tell you where all the connectors are and what goes and comes from where.
