Default What radio for aftermarket fairing?

Just picked up an aftermarket fairing for my 98 Road King. Trying to piece a stereo together and I was curious what everyone is using on their non factory fairings. Was looking at the Kenwood KMR-440 & the Kenwood KMR-700U. The problem is the 440 only has a coated circuit board for protection and can you believe the warranty DOES NOT COVER WATER DAMAGE? The 700 is great but it is a two piece set up. The head unit that you see and another remotely mounted unit (the size of the radio) for power and speakers. This means the wires come out of the head unit in the fairing, down to the power supply (maybe in a saddle bag?) and back to the fairing to the speakers. Now add in disconnects so the fairing can come off ……… looking for a self contained conventional stereo recommendations?

I'm not sure what after market fairing configuration you have. Mine came with four six-inch speakers and a cubby for the unit; looks remarkably similar to yours. The P.O. installed a Fusion MS-CD500W (are you ready for this?) Marine Stereo Unit. Self contained.

At first I was a little taken aback, but the unit performs very well, contains a plug-in for auxiliaries (MP-3 etc) and has a single quick disconnect power plug for removing the fairing.

It's Sirius ready (add-on module internal to the unit) and the CD player works very well with both MP-3 and standard music CD's. AM/FM, WX.

Odd choice but it works well.

Good luck

Just got in after being out all day … funny you should recommend that brand. This is what I found in my travels. It’s a Fusion IP600! Big buttons for easy tuning on highway rides & IPx5 Waterproof standards so I am sure rain & the hose while washing will not even make this break a sweat. Just filled the hole to see the fitment. 280 watts out of the box (70X4) not too shabby. Paid 300 with the tax out the door!

IPX-5

Protected against water jets - Water projected at all angles through a 6.3mm nozzle at a flow rate of 12.5 liters/min at a pressure of 30kN/m2 for 3 minutes from a distance of 3 meters.

Yup, looks a lot like mine. Only real gripe I have with it is there's no button backlighting until you turn it on. Would be nice to have the "ON" button backlit so you can find it in the dark.
