Have a 1978 3/4 helmet with a small #1 on it.

 

No no no...you don't get it... You're supposed to buy all NEW "1" stuff from HD. That's what it's all about. Just watch, there'll be a catalog soon with a whole section of "1" things to buy.

 

i have a handfull of the old #1 stickers in the garage.......somewhere. a friend gave them to me about 20 years ago. i might have to look for them now.

 

Not to spoil the magic, but the second hand is attached to an arm under the face and comes up around the outside edge.

 

Here's my first HD T that I bought on my first Harley on my first big trip in 1978. My cousin and I were on our way to California by way of Denver. Shirt was bought at Town and Country HD in Aurora, CO.
Sweat shirt was bought in the '80s, I think.
I got the fairing off eBay last year. Fairing is not OEM HD. I think it was made in the 70s by a company called California. If anyone knows more inform me. Headlight cut-out is too small for my Shovel. But I'm thinking about other mods on the Shovel and using the fairing. It may be my bike project for next year. Gotta finish my Dyna first.

Now that the #1 thing is back.

When did it go away? My crusty old vest has that back patch - one of the coolest ever!

 

I don't think if ever went away. I too feel it (the #1 symbol) is the best marketing for a brand....ever. I was literally a child in the mid to late 70's. The #1 logo was the image I remember best, next is the eagle over/behind the bar and shield.

I have two #1 medallions from the 70's (purchased, of course). Plan on putting one on my Dyna fuse cover, kinda like a little throwback nostalgia. I believe it will go well with my "retro" 70's two-up seat from the anniversary edition Dyna.

I love the #1 logo and hope it's back to stay. I gues that's one thing AMF did right LOL!
