why change the carb on a stock engine ?? I like and run S&S because its simple and USA, however they do have their quirks. mikuni probably has better across the board performance........your CV is plenty and a good performer for a stock engine

well thats true . the stock carb does need rebuilt. thats for sure. i just want a new one. i see a lot of guys running s&s and hear guys talking about mikuni 42's and how much better they are over stock carbs. maybe i sould just rebuild my cv.

No experience with the S&S but I had a mik42 put on the superglide.
It had a V E R Y crisp and connected feel compared to the stock cv ( as it should).
Would I do it again , absolutely , do you really need to ... No .

I had an S&S Super E on a prior bike and was very pleased with the performance as well as the ease of installation and simple adjustments for max performance. I would use one again if I get a carb bike.
No experience with a Mikuni 42 or 40 but had a Mikuni slide carb on an old rice burner and it seems like I was always having to work on/adjust it.

do the mikunis suffer from a problem called slide slap? it makes like a fluttering sound when idling?

CV carb with a slide kit and the jet modification kit will run as well the Mikuni at about $300 less . Mikuni's take a hand that knows what they are doing to tune properly also .
I'm an S&S fan BUT as a post said they have a couple little quirks too but only on the odd bike doesn't happen to all , what they are is simple to install & tune by pretty much anyone with a hint of common sense . They also are good for later engine size increases with just jetting . Nothing looks as good on a harley as that tear drop air cleaner just my .
