like my Super E. Had it apart once and it's easy to play with.
And tuning tips AND schematics are available on the S&S site!

Yes-- you can easily hear it through a stage 1 A/C but it's not objectionable-- everyone in the know will know you have a Mik.

I have a S&S E on a stage 3 Evo and it's EZ to adjust and rebuild. I believe the Mik carb is smoother than the S&S but is more complicated to tune.

On a box stock bike I wouldn't bother with either.

I put a S&S on mine even if i'm not (and never been) into races or speeding. The old stock OEM carb doesen't help much at idle or when the weather is cold or too hot. The S&S is the way to fix these problems.
I was told S&S is a old carb compared Mikuny but i couldn't care less. The oval air filter cover makes me always happy and proud of it
Last not least S&S is the carb mounted on Easyrider's movie bikes !

Having had all 3, The Mikuni HSR42 is the best of the 3 performance wise IMHO. I did all I could with a stock CV on my 99 RK, thunderslide, thunderjet, re-jetted...etc. I even sent it out and had the slide re-molded (a performance carb guy smoothed out the rough front edge of the slide). That was after taking the poorly designed composite "thunderslide" back out. I finally just bought the Mikuni. I don't have Dyno numbers but could immediatly tell the bike had noticably more power.

I've used the S&S Super E on a few bikes I've had. Easy to tune and they sure look cool. I still think the performance of a Mikuni is better than a S&S. Just my 2 cents.

The Mikuni would perform better; it has 3 circuits to S&S's two.

Have had S&S and the 42 Mikuni. I liked the Mukuni hands down. You can supertune the Mukuni to your liking. Not a lot you can do to an S&S. As we say JMHO.

S&S Super E here. Just get it set up and leave it alone. Very happy with it and works great with my cam and pipe setup on the ol' EVO. Oh yeah, and S&S still has the best looking A/C cover on the market.
