I happened to run across a website that showed a 1931 Henderson that engine was on.

I just googled the '31 Henderson and I've got to agree, it's a Henderson.

I was gonna guess Indian 4 cylinder but I am not conversant enough with them to contradict the folks that are saying Henderson..........

That's because William Henderson started Ace motorcycles after selling Henderson Motorcycles to Excelsior. After his death, Ace was sold to Indian.
So Henderson, Excelsior, Ace and Indian 4's were all basically the same.
