Default The new Harley six speed or Gold Wing ?

PLEASE PLEASE . Before you flame the hell out of me, I’ve been a devoted Harley man for years. This is a serious question for me and im asking my brothers here to be honest with me.
I have owned three Harley’s. Soft tail , Bagger and ultra classic. I’ve taken trips on my Ultra but it has left me broke down from time to time. I find myself making runs to each Harley shop rather than just going where I want. I guess I don’t trust it anymore, but my friends same the same thing. Well , there’s a lot of people on here that have taken trips on there Harley’s also so I thought I would ask them about reliability issues.
My friend bought a Gold Wing the other day. He let me ride it. MAN it blew me away. What a ride. I talked to several guy’s that own one and they all say gas an go. They travel all over the united states and don’t worry.
Which brings me to my question. I want to travel for a while. Long runs like to Cala and Phili. Should I go with the Honda Or the New Harley six speed ? Im hearing there having problems with it already. I don’t know if it’s just me or Harley , but it seems we can’t trust the bike like we used to. To much new stuff.

Just got back from a trip Tampa to Sturgis and beyond. 20 Days and 7600 miles later it was stricktly gas and go. No issues, not one.

Have a riding buddy that has a fairly new Goldwing I believe about 2 years old. He was riding locally when he and his wife went over a railroad track and the frame cracked in half. Yup right then in there just cracked right in half. Luckily they were fine but I have never heard that on an HD, Never. Maybe Goldwings are only made for long trips as my buddy does complain about the heat off the engine too when riding locally, more then us HD riders do.

Yea, Goldwings are a great ride. After 4 new Harleys and nealy 60,000 miles of riding in recent years I too have considered the GW.
All of my friends ride Harleys and I must admit Harleys have "soul". Finally HD has made some meaningful improvements....this kept me onboard....in August I purchased an 07 HD Ultra.

Honda's are hardly the bastions of trouble free performance that you would be led to believe they are.

Earlier this year, I read a several page article in the WSJ, where a group had done some pretty extensive testing of various late model cars, as well as an extended study on older cars still on the road, and come to the conclusion that american mid sized cars were every bit as dependable and long lasting as their foreign counter parts, and in many instances had a far lesser cost of ownership over the life of the vehicle than their foreign counter parts as well. This all flies in the face of "surveys" done by magazines such as consumer reports, ect, but also reinforces suspicions and opinions that I have held for a very long time, that we are basically being snowed by shitloads of propaganda, into believing that the foreign products are somehow superior to our own, home built products.

I've gotten well over 300 thousand miles on two different 302 v8's in two different grand marquis, with no transmission troubles, and minimal oil usage after many many miles. Friends and family members have put well in exces of 250 thousand miles on everything from chevy cavaliers, to ford pickups, with just basic repairs as well. Likewise, there are more than just a few ultras, street glides, ect, in our local riding group with in excess of 100 thousand miles with only minor repairs and maintenance, and absolutely zero major engine or transmission repairs.

The fact is, that I and millions of others have enjoyed many thousands of trouble free miles from Harley Davidsons, as well as fords and chevys. It is also quite factual to state that the foreign products have had thier share of problems.

Ride what you like, but be cautious of buying into the anti american labor agenda of the propaganda machines that run this nation. Our products are just as good as the overseas products, as well as being superior in many ways.

I just sold my Goldwing and bought an '07 Ultra. I am taking my first trip on the Ultra next weekend.
It is hard to compare the 2 bikes. It is more like apples to oranges than it is apples to apples. The Wing is more of a sport tourer and the Ultra is more of a cruiser tourer. The Wing is quieter, smoother and more powerful. The Ultra is the opposite. To me the the Wing was always a gas and go bike. I never worried about it. I hope I can say the same about the Ultra after a couple of years.

First model changes have issues many times. The GWing is not an all-new, and neither are the '06 HDs, which are reliable.

Why not wait until '08 to get a Harley if you are worried about this year's crop.
