I do like the super glides and was browsing craigslist and found some 05's and even 07's for around $8000! Just need forward controls on them.

I would love to test ride one but I do not have my license.. this will be my first bike.

The only thing Im really worried about is starting out on a heavy bike... not that I cant hold it up, Im not a pansy... Just learning to handle it in the turns.

I have owned a butt load of Hondas, Yamahas, and now, 4 different Harleys. Harleys are by far the easiest bike to ride. How many Goldwings do you see in a "slow ride" competition?????????????? There is a reason for that.

To the OP . The Dyna I have handles VERY well . I had a Sportster before it and found the Dyna to handle just as easily . They are very well ballanced and the fork angle makes them handle great at slow speeds . and 4 inch pistons , man your bike looks sweet for a 1990 . nice work my bike is a 95 , I LOVE the EVO's

I am 5'10 and started out on a 99 sportster 1200 with a a good seat and forward controls and had no trouble with comfort or power. Even on a 250 mile trip. I still have that bike even though i ride my softail 90% of the time. I do enjoy riding the sporty to work and other short rides. However it is just not roomy enough to go very far when my wife goes with me. As for the comment that you will look funny on a sporty, don't worry about it. You sound like a guy that doesn't have impress any one but yourself. One more comment. I have a brother that rides a 883 and it has everything he needs as far as power and will run with all of us all day long.

I too am a new rider and recently got my 1st bike. An 05 Sportster XL1200C. I was at the right place/right time, it's a Harley, met my price and it felt small and light enough I thought would be easy to learn on. It has met all those but now I'm thinking of my next one. I've been on some rides with guys with Road Kings and although they cruise much more comfortable on the highways, when we hit the curvy, hilly, country roads my Sporty is much peppier and nimble and I leave them in the dust. So although I really like the peppy, nimble of the sporty, the long distance ride leaves much to be desired. I've done online research that points to a Dyna that would meet that combination but I like to hear some real world advice please?

Best thing would be to go a demo at the local Harley dealer and ride the different models. Or you can see if your local dealer has a Dyna you can rent. Then go with what feels best for your type of riding and your riding style.

As others have said, look for a nice, clean Dyna (Street Bob, Super Glide, Low Rider).
