Here's another Walmart bashing,I've always parked my Ultra in their parking lots and never had a problem restarting my bike nor I've ever heard about the problem from other bikers. So what about the other mall parkings where they use the same type of surveillance cameras etc.?

I don't park mine in the parking lot. I park mine next to the three to five other bikes that are usually sitting up next to the building.

Default This post had

absolutely nothing! to do with bashing Walmart. I only stated what happened to me and the fact is it was at a Walmart. It could have been anywhere if the circumstances were exactly the same (which is why it never happened to you). On page 40 of the 2010 Touring Models owners manual it states:

Electromagnetic Interference: Other electronic devices, power lines, or other electromagnetic sources can cause the Smart Security System to operate inconsistently.

c. Move motorcycle at least 15 feet (5 m) from the spot of interference.

This is what happened, that is how I corrected it, and a Walmart paking lot is where it took place. Nothing more, nothing less. Your have now heard it from another biker.

It's a good thing they had the batteries, otherwise you would have had to figure out where to get batteries, or figure out your code, thinking it was still bad batteries.

As far as I'm concerned Walmart has special Harley Only parking at every store... right on the sidewalk.

1. Don't park near poles at Walmart if you have the HD security fobs. 2. When in doubt "RTFM".
3. Learn how to use your turn signal switches to manually unarm the security system

There is a lot of misconception about Harley's proximity alarm system.

It does not arm itself based on how far away or how close you are. The system automatically arms itself whenever it is shut off all the time every time. You can be still sitting on the bike and it will arm a few seconds after you shut her down.

The proximity comes into play when an alrm event happens; someone moves the bike, the ignition is turned on, etc.. The system then checks to see if the proximity fob is within range, if not, it continues with alarm proceedure, lights flash, ignition is disabled, siren goes off, etc.. If when an alarm event happens and it detects the fob within range, then it cancels the alarm actions and allows you to move, tilt, start the bike.

I hear salesmen tell customers all the time that it arms itself based on how far from the bike you are, it's just plain untrue.

yeap.. the little red key that comes in the odo display proves that.. since i park my ride in the garage all the time, i keep my fob in the shield bag all the time and the light is on constantly, well blinking when i turn the ign off.
