If you are going to clean your carb get a rebuild kit. They contain mostly gaskets and it's always a good idea to replace them when taking the carb apart. There might be instructions in it too; I can't remember.

When I do a carb rebuild I start by cleaning the exterior. Then I take it apart in sections and put each one back together before taking another section apart. Not much too them. So hit the exterior, then do the bowl and put it back together, then the accelerator pump (if you have one), and so on.
