Then there are are the kits that are actually training wheels that retain the bikes's rear wheel. After that, we get the trike conversions which H-D is now selling. How about a cool side car? Handling wouldn't be any worse, and Mama would probably be more comfy. When the time comes, I will go sidecar. Plus, for some reason, people love 'em.
When you grow up you'll see that life ain't all about "being cool".

You'll find out that instead of living to please others, it's more fun living to please yourself. (Pleasing others is "cool" if it's your wife, children or other loved one).

As far as the retractable training wheels, I've seen them. Work great for handicapped people when pulling to a stop sign. They go up when you accelerate and they get to enjoy the same pleasure as any other rider.

Trikes are cool. Hacks are cool. Flying a side car is fun. Giving someone a ride and flying the sidecar with them in it... priceless... Sorry not flying it hear.

Ride what you can and what you want. Don't worry about what the other guy does as long as it doesn't endanger you.
I'd like to have one of each when the time comes that I just can't keep it up anymore. Bikers Viagra.

Enjoy being young.

After having an inseam challenged riding buddy convert his Gold Wing into a trike and having the time of his life on it. I decided to convert my Wing, which I was getting bored with, into a trike as well.

First off there's no stock Harley that can keep up with these trikes in the curves. Some of these trikes can pull over 1 G on a skid pad. They're very stabled at speed if built/converted correctly.

To appricate a trike ride you'll have to ride one for at least 50 to 100 miles, test riding one in a parking lot won't cut it. I tried and hated it when I test rode one in a lot. After 75 miles on one I started to get the hang of it. Now I have logged over 31K on my trike in 2 yrs.

A trike isn't as wide as a side car rig which can exceed the width of some small cars. I weighed the pros and cons between a trike and side car rig and decided that a trike can fit better in my 2 car garage next to my car and still leave room to pull in and out with my Dyna.

I've seen couples sharing the riders position on a long distance trike ride, something you'll almost never see done on a 2 wheel bagger. If God forbid something was to happen to me, my small framed wife would have no problem in piloting the trike.

Most don't like trikes due to the fact that some of them cost over $35K, (mines over $40K and still counting) so its out of their financial reach. So they state they'll never own one no matter what. This is why its rare to see a young rider on one.

I like riding my trike best at night, there's no worries if panic braking or turn avoidances are required, gravel parking lots aren't an issue either.

So the best analogy I can think of is, why would a golfer need more than 1 club? This answers why I have a trike and a Dyna, each one works differently in different situations.

Lots of folks go with the kits or training wheels because they don't have the green for a good trike.

Nice GL1800 trikes can reach $50K. A base model is in the mid 30s..

I've ridden the GL and the HD and there is no comparison, You need the power of the 1800 6cyl to move the extra weight. The HD was a dog in term of performance, but looked better IMO.

I have to admit that I looked into the "training wheels" for my GL1200 Goldwing about 10 or 12 years ago. I found a company that made a set that automatically came down at speeds under 5 mph and automatically folded up at 15 mph. They could also be operated manually with a switch on the handlebars. I had seriously injured my back, and was afraid that I would never be able to ride it safely again as I lost some muscle control and feeling in one leg and consequently a lot of the strength in that leg. I was frustrated to find that they only made them for the GL1500 and newer bikes.
Long story short...after about a year of therapy and medication, my back eventually healed sufficiently, and I regained the strength in my leg enough to feel comfortable on two wheels again.
I have seen bikes with them on the road over the years, and personally thought they looked silly, but if they make a product that helps an elderly or partially disabled biker to stay on the road, I'm not gonna make fun of or criticize them for using them.

Just my 2 cents.....
