Will new cam hurt MPG?
I have a 2001 88" Heritage Classic carbed stage 1. I currently get 38/50 mpg. I am considering a new cam for low to mid range torque. I know many variables are involved, but as a general rule of thumb, will a new higher performance cam have much negative effect on my current mpg? I do not plan on other upgrades at this time.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

Get more HP because it looks cute?
Get more HP because it was expensive to buy and put in?
Get more HP from the Cam Fairy?
Get more HP because it lets more fuel into the cylinder?
Use more fuel and not lower mpg?
That has to be one sweet cam to give more HP and do it without using more fuel.

How is that new cam suppose to work?

If you read his post, he is asking if "it will have MUCH negative effect on MPG" Meaning will he lose 1 or 2 mpg's or will he lose 10 or 20
Your sarcasm really served no point but did put your post count up one more point.

Exactly. If the weight of the rider and bike remain the same (which of course they do, unless your new cam results in more time spent hanging out in biker bars consuming more beer and developing a massive biker beer gut) the bike is now capable of doing more work in a given period of time (defined as distance traveled per time unit, throttle deflection the same) the only variable that provides that capability is more horsepower generated through greater consumption of fuel.

I have a 96". I added 255 cams and actually increased my fuel mileage over the stage 1 I had before putting the cams in.
