Yeah it's nice that we do not have a helmet law here in OH and I never wear a helmet anymore. I know the risks and it's my life so I can pick. We do have seat belt law here so I always wear one so I don't get a ticket and they are big on seat belt tickets here.

I live in Iowa (no law) and hardly anyone wears one, on anything. I went to a bike night the other night (around 4k bikes) and I would bet I was one of only maybe 20 riders with a helmet. I wear one for one reason only, I have a 6 year old boy. I also will not take the wife out.

I look at it this way. If I do go down, I have some gear on, if it is bad enough that the worst happens, at least my kid won't lose both parents in one shot. There is a risk riding a motorcycle, not everything is in your control.

If I did not have kids or was single, I doubt I would wear one. I have rode without (when I was trying to find the right one) and it is nice.

To each his own, keep the rubber side down brothers.

We have a short season in Illinois; however, living in a helmet optional state is nice, especially on hot days.

I have always felt that helmets and seatbelts should be the choice of anyone over age 18. But, since insurance companies rates are comprised of the collected group of insurers, they should have the choice to deny coverage to anyone injured due to not wearing belts or helmets.

I very much appreciate having the choice to wear one or not.

no way splitting is more dangerous than not wearing a helmet, but both should be riders choice in all 50 states (though of the 2, I'd much prefer lane splitting if only one ever gets legalized)
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +

Most of our roads here in IND are too narrow to split while riding a bike.. We don't get all the Gov money U Cal-a-fornians do to build them wider.
Most of the time there's less than two feet between cars on our roads.

We don't have any roads with more than 2 lanes in the same direction within 40 miles of home. Indianapolis is the closest.

I've had many close calls just while riding with friends in the right lane and be passed by cagers that ride the line divider coming within a foot of us when they pass us in the left lane.

Kudos for showing the good example

I was out on the curling ice the other night for the first games of the season. About 2 minutes into the game a fellow on a neaby team slipped
and fell backwards. SMACK, his head sounded like a water melon as it
hit the ice. I really don't understand why some sports where falling
is not uncommon don't have manditory helmets. I guess motorcycle riders
are seen too much in public to avoid political do gooders from trying to score points.

Yes I also wear a full face when ever I ride.
