Got hit this morning

RE: Got hit this morning
You have a good attitude. Get your front end checked just to be safe. I would suggest that you do not leave a car length between you and the stopped vehicle in front of you. That will just p*** some people off. But do try to leave an escape route ( not always possible). I try, whenever possible to stop to the side where I can see the driver ahead in their side mirror and hope they will see me. Being in another driver's blind spot is hazardous to your health. It's too bad the young lady has to get a ticket but she really needs to have an impression made. She could have accidentally killed you.

RE: Got hit this morning
We let one of our tractor trailer drivers go recently for a similar accident. I had just gotten my Harley and was floored at their carelessness.
They turned down a side road, passed the driveway by 15' of the place they were going and hit the brakes firmly, did a quick mirror check and put it in reverse. Never saw the Civic that rode their rear end all the way in.
Car honked it's horn right as the rear axle parked itself firmly in the radiator. If it had been a motorcycle it would have been bad. Hopefully none of us would have been so close and all of us would have bailed if we couldn't back enough to shoot around. Never assume they see you. Any vehicle @ any time.

Just curious, if you were 1/2 of a car length behind her at the stop, how fast was she going as she was backing up b4 you could hit your horn?

Glad you are OK. And she really deserves to be cited, as do all accident causers. Maybe she will learn from it. Youth does not excuse stupidity.
I try to stay to the right of the cars so they can see me in their mirror.

RE: Got hit this morning
She was probably going 5 mph. Thanks to all for the condolences. I will have Harley check out the front end, but it seems fine and went out on a lightly used road this am and cruised at 85 with no problems, nothing loose and handling is normal. Part is $40 if that's all I need.
