6th gear pull at what speed?
#44
Since I have a 2009 Ultra, with a tach, i shift by rpms and feel of the bike. I go into 6th around 2500 which is near 65 on my bike. I downshift when the tach gets near 2000. Have always used the tach for shifting when my Harley had a tach. A couple havent and then I just used the feel of the vibration to shift. Each his own as far as shifting but always felt lugging was very hard on a bike and avoid it at all costs..
Same here. Exactly.

Maybe those who find this really hard would do better with an automatic?
I've been shifting bikes since I was about 9, cars since I was 14 or 15. I know when I'm in too low or too high a gear and I shift accordingly. All kinds of factors play into it: grade, wind, load, terrain, traffic ahead, etc. Using a hard and fast rule like "I shift at 2740 rpm" or "I shift at 65" makes no sense to me at all.

2010 StreetGlide with stock 96. I dont use 6th until running at 70+ and the rpms settle at about 2800. Drop below 70, I downshift to 5th. Those shift points someone posted from the manual seem kinda low to me for how my engine "feels" and responds,.......just sayin

I never noticed when I shifted, it was all based on the sound of the motor, but yesterday I made an effort to watch the speedo and this is approxiamately what I found I do. But I do ride my bike in the power range, this is on my Road King. The V-Rod is quite a bit different.
I like to do this, but to each their own:
2nd at 30
3rd at 40
4th at 50
5th at 60
6th at 70+
