Excellent post. Advice like this is always a welcome reminder.
My compliments to both you and your wife for handling a bad situation well.

That experience must have been a real scare. I'm glad to hear your wife survived the ordeal as things could have ended up much worse. I am going to hold my comments on the self proclaimed ride captains... I'm not a fan of group rides. I like to smell the roses without having to watch my ***. Kudos to you and your wife

so your wife got knocked unconscious, had the bike on top of her, and you just brought her around/fixed the bike/put her back on it?

fantastic idea

yes - don't be influenced by peers, ride your own ride and wear whatever you want (which I say because I've noticed how concerned HDF riders are with what everyone else thinks about them)

Gald she is ok man and I'm like you, there are only a few people I like to ride with these days. In fact I have never been a big fan of group rides. I do one every year-it's a bennefit run and it's like over 700 bikes with a police escort, but there are time sthat we get way to clsoe for comfort going 55 then down to 15 real fast. When someone rides outside of there limits it's not only bad for them, but bad for everyone around as you can see.

Sorry to hear about your wife, glad she is ok. As a Road Capt for my club I always tell my people to ride their own ride. It is my responsibility to safely navigate around them - not their responsibility to get out of my way. What A$$hole #1 and #2 failed to comprehend is that if they are taking the responsibility to block they are also taking the responsibility for the safety of everyone in the group - their is NO excuse for #2 to not stop and render aide. That person deserves to get the $%$ beat out him for leaving another rider on the ground and #1 gets the same beating for causing the accident in the first place.

Ride your own ride is great advice.

Best wishes on a speedy recovery for your wife - good that she's relatively OK.

What a bunch of flaming idiots! I almost can't believe that anyone would be so callous or stupid. I'm fairly new to group rides and thankfully I haven't had any similar experiences thus far, but it's definitely made me think about putting some research into who I ride with in the future.
