Selling a Bike- Test Rides?
#31
I'm in the market for a street glide and if the seller won't let me ride it he'd at least have to take it to the cycle shop of my choice before I would buy it. I can totally understand how some sellers don't won't people to ride there bikes because some just want to take it out for a joy ride.

Yep, cash in hand if they want to test ride. We did this with the young man who bought the wife's Bonneville the other week. He had the cash ready, and offered for us to hold it while we agreed to let him take it for a quick spin around the townhouse complex (all of a 30 second ride).
I guess another easy option would be for the seller to take it for a ride and the buyer can follow behind them in their vehicle. That way they can see for themselves that the bike is in running condition. This may even be a better idea - that way you can weed out any people who just want a way to "test" a bike and decide if they like it, but have no intention of buying *your* bike.

Agrees..
Have him hand you the cash to hold (full amount you are asking). AFTER he puts the cash in your hand, tell him he can take a test ride, and IF he brings the bike back undammaged, you will return his cash. If the bike comes back damaged, the bike is his and the cash is yours. JMHO!

This is why I always take a bit less and trade bikes in. I do not like to deal with people comming to my house, being late and then wasting my time, plus asking for a test ride. Hell I don't like to let non rider even sit on my bikes since we all know they are so easy to drop. I say agree on a price then have the cash in your hand, if the bike gets dropped then they bought it, if it come back just fine and they don't want it then give them the money back.

Are you people for real?
I would never buy a bike without riding it first. Too many options out there. I have never been refused a test ride. I have always allowed test rides. I'm careful but good god people....RELAX.
