Default K & N Air filter

Hey All: I have a 2005 RG with stage one and Rolling Thunder slip on pipes. I would like to put in a K&N air filter. I have two questions 1) If I install the K&N will I need to do anything to the fuel mapping since I will be getting better air flow? and 2) does anyone know the part number for the filter for this bike or a site that I can go and get it?

Thanks for your input

Ride safe and GOD Bless

Just go to K&N' s web site, it is really easy to find there and yes you should have it remapped for performances sake and the longevity of you motor.

Stage 1 is filter, pipes, remapping + dyno. You will feel the difference.

It will cost you more money, but I think you should invest in a tuner and don't bother with the remap. The remap would help but a good tuner (and tune) will make a ton of difference. JMO

You state you have Stage 1 - Stage 1 includes freer flowing exhaust, freer flowing air box and filter and one of a number of choices for a tuner. If you are just changing from one brand of freer flowing air filter to another I do not think you would need to re-tune.

The K & N might have the potential to flow more air than a Screaming Eagle (if thats what you have), I don't know, but the cfm specs are available I am sure. In any event it won't flow more air than your existing headers and mufflers will allow.

I have a K & N on my 05 Fatboy. Fits and works great. Screamin Eagle II slip ons and a PC3 fuel programmer. Works pretty good. I have not had a Dyno tune.
Sorry, no part numbers. Check with K&N

I didnt remap my bike when I did a K&N and works fine. Of course I was already had a Stage 1 on my 2006 EFI Heritage. I will be putting a gear driven cam in it soon so yes I will do the tuner then. Tuners are good and help your performance. WTF get one ya know.

K&N made my Stage1 run lean so I ditched it. Didn't feel like re-mapping went back to the SE filter

Hello,

Normally you do not need to re-map the computer with a K&N kit, however if you have other mods increasing the air flow, for example, a stage 2/3 intake and high flow pipes, you will most likely need to remap or use a programmer. Just so you know, with just a stage 1,2 or 3 K&N kit you should not need to remap; however you may need to with the pipes.

K&N offers 3 upgrade kits for your spicific Harley

RK-3909 (stage 1);
RK-3910 (stage 2);
63-1125 or 63-1125P (stage 3).

The 63-1125 and 63-1125p will give you the most power, but they also decrease the most restriction (and increase the most air flow). If you are using the Rolling Thunder slip on pipes and go with one of the 63 kits I personally recommend going with a remap or programmer. If you have questions, feel free to PM me directly. Here are the pics and Dyno numbers on a stock bike.
