Try lane splitting on Hwy 17 over to Santa Cruz 2 up in stopped traffic to sharpen your skills, lol. It's definitely an acquired skill.

Default Surface streets

The traffic is horrible and we always split. Just driving to the front of the traffic at the red light gives you smooth sailing till the next bunch.

should be legal everywhere so the cars/trucks get used to it - why have 2 wheeled vehicles adding to the congestion when theres a clear ribbon of asphalt between the traffic jams?

but yeah, there are many douchebags with the mentality that "if I have to sit in traffic so should the m/c's" - instead of looking at it as "well, they are risking injury, but at least they aren't adding to my misery"

...jealousy is such an ugly thing ...

though some states actually consider lane splitting a criminal misdemeanor - but I have been known to split anyway if traffic is <5-10mph and completely jammed up, trying to idle through stop and go for hours for no good reason is not safe.... unfortunately citizens/legislators hear "lane splitting/sharing" and assume it refers to what the sportbikes do at 80 mph in clear traffic ... rather than just legislating the rules that 'govern' the practice in California (rule of thumb < 30, no more than 15mph faster than vehicles)

Don't think that's quite correct, last time I checked the law, there is no speed limit on lane splitting.

It said "...with prudence.'

And Semper Fi brother.

I rode with Prudence once, silly broad kept wiggling so I pulled over and kicked her off.

You guys up north haven't lived until you split traffic in downtown L.A. during rush hour.
