Those that have dropped their bike and those that will...
Maybe it's just me, but this expression seems incredibly defeatist. I've never
dropped my bike but I certainly don't feel like I will eventually.
I'm also a pilot and there is a similar phrase in aviation on gear up landings;
there are those that have and those that will. I've never landed gear up and
I don't feel like I will. Again, just seems like defeatist thinking.

I agree with you, Pete. I almost dumped mine practicing slow maneuvers in a parking lot. But I haven't dropped it yet.
Guess I haven't been riding long enough.
Hope I never do drop it.

There are only two types of riders in this world: Those that divide the world into two types of riders, and those that do not. And you can quote me on that!

It's not that you try to drop your bike it's just all the planets line up and mysterious things happen. I was carefull and thought I would never drop mine, but I did.

Dropped mine twice. The first was b/c I thought I could make a tight slow speed turn and ran out of room. It was either brake while the bike was leaning or go over an eight foot embankment. The second was when I had to brake quickly in DEEP gravel (shouldn't have used the front brake!)[:@]. Both were valuable learning experiences.
There's no shame in dropping a bike. There is shame, however, in doing it twice for the same reason!

Now if you can only convince your insurance company that you'll never land gear-up, they may finally drop the rates on retracs.
As a pilot, I am certain you have heard of the famous five "hazardous attitudes" which lead to accidents. You know 'em, "Resignation, Anti-Authority, Impulsivity, Macho, and one you should seriously consider, Invulnerability - the thinking that accidents only happen to others, but never to them."
Oftentimes, by simply admitting that we are vulnerable, we are not ten foot tall and bullet-proof, we can avert incidents because we are conciously aware that "they can and do happen to us".
Hope you never drop your bike or land gear up.

Or drop my bike on the way to the airport and land gear up on the way home!
Now that would be a very bad, and expensive, day!!
