Default Have you ever bought a bike with high milage

I'm looking at a 2007 dyna cvo FXDSE with 68,000 miles on it. The bike still looks new but whats 68 thousand to this 110 cu motor? Is it 50% shot or will it need a major motor job soon. How far can the new harley motors go. Am I nuts to even be looking at it.

My bike is a year old and has 23,000 miles on it...I sold my last bike with 103,000 on the clock and had no concerns. Neither of them were SE110 motors, but the miles, in and of itself, would not alarm me particularly, if the price was right and you saw the service history.

Personally, I'd never do it. I don't do with cars or trucks either, but that's just me.

However, air-cooled motors are a different story. For me, there's no way. Unless of course, it was made before 1972.

How long did it take you to put 103000 miles on a bike ? Are you retired or commuting long distance every day to work.

For many years have bought bikes without original speedo's never gave it a second thought.Course these machines were to be restored, rebuilt, whatever it took to make them roadworthy.Today will all the resources and places to find inexpensive parts it's has become a true joy buying bikes like this.

I don't buy high mileage bikes and vehicles unless I get them dirt cheap, it's up to you, but just think how high your starting mileage is and where it's going to be in a few years. I got he 1200C last week with 2800 and it's now at like 3200 and guess what if the season was not almost over the bike would have average mileage on it by the end of the year. Always try to start with low mileage.

All depends if they were "easy" or "hard" miles. Oil changes performed regularly?

I sold an '83 FLT with 82,000 miles. It was well maintained and ran strong.

I bought a 79 FXEF with only God knows how many miles in 1990, little problems, mostly electrical, no drivetrain problems at all.

I bought my 05 Road King with 28k miles. No regrets so far. Some seals went out but no major problems at over 45k miles. My bike had 1 owner before me, he bought it at the same dealer he traded it in at and had all of his service done there. If you know it was taken care of and are willing to accept the fact there could be a problem I don't see the big deal. 68k miles, and all the bikes I see out there with 100k plus, there is still alot of riding left on it.
