Are used bike prices still falling?

A friend of mine has a 2006 Fat Boy with about 40k miles on it. It doesn’t have anything in the way of great mods, just a computer upgrade and some short shots. He’s trading for a Road Glide Ultra and was offered $14k for his Fat Boy. If the dealer is willing to go in that deep on his old bike I can’t imagine used bike prices are that bad.
Although, I follow a lot of auctions on ebay and I’m finding that bids are way, way down for most bikes. Basically I think I’m saying I have no idea what’s going on with used bike prices!

If I were going to trade my bike in for a new model, I would remove as many of the upgrades as possible and put the stock parts back on. Of course, I do all my own wrenching, so this would not be a problem. If you don't wrench, then chances are you paid top dollar to have your parts installed. You are going to lose, no matter what you do. If I was selling my bike myself, I would leave the mods and use them as a selling point, like the dealers do. Plus, I would work with a buyer if they wanted something put back to stock. I would then sell the removed parts on flea bay or craigslist. Just my 2 pesos.

If my local craigslist is any indication, either used bike prices aren't down at all or the sellers are complete ****ing lunatics. I literally laugh out loud when I peruse CL to see what's on the market.

I know what you mean. I see the same thing. It's like people think they are going to get back every cent they put in for mods, including the labor charges to install the stuff. I had some friends who dumped $14,000 into a 2001 Sportster 883 and tried to sell it for close to that. They wound up getting $5000 for it after I found a buyer for them several years later...Then they bought a WAY overpriced used Fatboy (2003 for like $21,000) at the $tealership. It did have alot of chrome on it....

I paid a dealer $7800 for this bike, which has probably close to $4K in bling and etc... shows 19K on the odometer and runs strong, probably has at least a cam and cleaner.
I'll let you be the judge as to whether prices are down.

You never get anything extra for add-ons.
Real sad I just saw a add on craigs list for a 2010 Street Glide a that they are trying to sell for $22,000, They originallly paid $29,000 with all of the add ons.

The 88's are down in resale after the 96's and 6 speed were released. Not to mention all the 2-4K miles garage queens on the market. This will happen after a new engine and tranny release.
Sharp looking standard though - Nice bike. hope your buddy puts more than 19K on it.

Not my buddy, it's my bike and I plan to ride it a lot. I dunno, any big Harley for under $10K seems like a deal to me, but what do I know. I do know that I prefer the carb'd 88 to the more recent engines for a lot of reasons, so I'm a happy camper.
