What a beauty, and a great memory.Back in the early 60's I bought a 53 Panhead it looked almost identicle to yours except white on black paint.Rode mine for almost 10 yrs the last three as a chopper.Yup I got the bug and chopped it,blame it on young and feeling the need for speed.Sure loved that bike.

Fantastic looking bike. You are one lucky guy to have a wife to buy it for you. I believe that most guys' wives would rather sell their bike than buy them one!

As for the cost, he spent $5k for this bike because it was loaded. I have never seen another pair of mirrors like this. And you will notice that it has turn signals (no flasher, just markers). Those were a dealer-installed option not from the factory until '61 or '62. Plus, it is the chrome package.
In '59 Harley offered at least 13 different solo finish groups, none which totaled the price of the bike over $2000.
Base model FLH's were $1345, and regular FL's were $1280.

Not trying to knock your thread, but unless you have reciepts, theres almost no way he paid $5K for a '59 Duo-Glide. You could but three for that price.
