Military Base Motorcycle Pass

I'm at joint base Charleston and they just changed the rules here you have to take the MSF course every three years and you have to take all your paperwork(license, insurance, registration and some safety form) to the naval weapons station to get a MRID (motorcycle riders ID). I'm pretty sure they just keep making things more difficult hoping you will just get frustrated and not ride.

It depends on the Command. Some states only recognize the MSF course if it was accomplished in thier state. Here in Korea we are required to have a MSF course every 3 years. Doesn't matter where you take it for us. I encourage everyone to take the basic course here, as it's free and they provide the motorcycles. Advanced or refresher course are also free for us, but we have to provide our own bike for those.

Oh, and getting the bike inspected in order to get a base sticker is no easy task either. The bike must meet the state standards where the Marine is stationed. I mean reflectors, distance between turn signals, the whole nine yards.
There really should be a check-list for all the **** we have to do.

At Benning we have to do a refresher course every year. The past CG didnt like bikes for whatever reason, so made it very difficult. It actually turns people off from riding. No what is really dumb, civilians on Benning only have to recert every three years.

i just left Lejeune about year and half ago and they were pretty chill about it. just had to show some sort of rider improvement course and they didnt even inspect your ride, so you should be good.
just got to pendleton and they're dicks about it here...has to be their course, have to re-take it every 3 years, they inspect the ride (and like to fail people for the smallest thing)

Yup, as long as you have the card you're good. As far as the recertification goes, you have to take a refresher every 3 years for cruisers and dual sports. They are really going after the sport bikes, making them take not only the basic MSF, but a sport bike specific course too. Then they're making them recert every two years. Statistics from the Naval Safety Center have driven these requirements for the Navy, and have been strongly recommended (but not mandated) to the Marine commands. Seems that too many kids are returning from overseas with a wad of cash and driving off the lot with a new Busa (or other crazy HP/Wt ratio machine) -- and dying inside of 3 days of the purchase.
Anyway, you're good to go with your recent MSF card.

Yes, but you don't have to pay for it. The base pays for it because you're required to have gone through the course to ride on base. They also require you to ride with a helmet, orange vest, long sleeves, and hard sole shoes to get on base.
