Hey Captain, I just spoke with you on the phone regarding a bottle holder for my bike. At any rate, I haven't been on the Parkway in a couple of months, but earlier this summer it wasn't terribly scenic. Lots of trees and limbs down from the snow and ice last winter, at least where I live. As for some of the better places to stop, Mabry Mill near Hillsville, VA is nice. The Bluffs Restaurant at Doughton Park near Sparta, NC has fantastic blackberry and peach cobblers. Northwest Trading Post sells some good fried apple pies, though they are hard to keep in stock during the summer. The Linn Cove Viaduct is pretty cool to ride across. I'm not familiar with the Parkway from Linville on south, but I will say you won't find a better breakfast in Cherokee than Granny's Kitchen which is just up from Harrah's Casino.

One thing about the BRP in our neck of the woods (Ashe County, NC), it is the road with the MOST auto-related deaths in the area, particularly bikes. Between the deer and the blue-haired Floridians crossing the yellow line while gawking at the scenery, you'll have plenty to keep an eye on.

Hope you have good weather. Looks like a washout tomorrow but dry after that. A good website for local weather is here.

Rode the southern part from Boone NC - south, here is a must see, Linville Falls just off the blue ridge. Short hike involved but well worth it. Enjoy your ride

Mt. Mitchel is worth seeing, the Linville Gorge. Stone Mountain is worth seeing as well, you can see it from the Parkway, but better seeing it up close.

If you go a few miles on past the Linville Falls there is a place called Wiseman's View. It overlooks the Linville Gorge, which is all wilderness. The road to the falls and to Wiseman's View is pretty rough but worth the effort. I have been to a lot of places but this is one of my favorites. Stay on the walking trails because this is a high cliff area. If you make it, enjoy!

There is a real good buffet style restaurant at The Meadows of Dan in VA. I also like Mt. Mitchell in NC.
