RE: Attn: Kess...............
Hey Phil! - I passed! On an 80cc Honda Scooter in the shadow of the Rahway Prison - The last time I did this was in PA 30 years ago - I don't remember much about that time but I am glad that I finally got it over with in NJ! - The test must have been designed in the 50's or 60's for small bikes. The guy who went before me had a beautiful Dyna and he told me it was his third attempt. He failed twice and the guys at the DMV told him he needed a smaller bike to pass. He told them that this was his bike and this is what he would pass the test with so I had to respect him for that. He just made it and finally passedbut his foot. I felt good for him - I was up next and that little scooter I had was very nimble - It really was a breeze and the people that work there were at least decent to me - The funniest thing about the day was the guy after me - An obviously experienced rider from Italy, this guy could do wheelies with one hand - he knew how to ride but he gave them such a hard time and didn't listen to what they told him to do - he pissed everyone off and they failed for basically being a wise-*** - He was screaming at anyone he thought might listen but no go - they bounced him out of there.
Sooooo -If anyone in NJ needs any help getting legal it's all fresh in my mind and I can help!
I thought I would come home and take my first legal ride but the wife and kid had other plans - I will be going out before they wake up tomorrow!

Kess, In IL, they issue different licenses. One for under 250cc and another for anything over 250cc. Also a category for Trike only, not sure about sidecars whather it's listed w/ trikes or not, but definitely not a regular motorcycle classification either. Our test was not designed for large bikes either. 25 years ago when I last took it, it wa in MO on a small town and they judt blocked off a road and set up a weave and had you turn around.
BTW, I gotout of taking mine by taking the MSF on a 250cc NightHawk. Good class. Basically free here in IL and lots of good info. Art

Congratulations!!! Getting anything done with the NJ DMV is quiet an accomplishment. If you think getting a "M" endorsement is tough, try getting a CDL with a "P" endorsement... [:@] Now.... RIDE!!!

Congrats Kess on passing your test. I did the same thing several years ago that you just did. I borrowed a friend of mine's 500 Honda to do my driving test for my license and passed it. I think that the light bike is the way to go, but I have seen people with bigger bikes do the same test. I guess it's whatever is easiest for the individual. Enjoy the ride.
