Opinions please... 2004 Fatboy verses 2007 VRSCX dealer trade...
I need a little perspective and while I generally make really sound decisions advising other people I sometimes do something and later wonder, "wtf were you thinking?"
I own a really, really (really) nice 2004 FLSTFI "Fatboy" bought new by a big spender type in 2004 at my local stealer. Flush with wads of cash from the construction biz and hysteria over the MOCO's 100th year bikes the big spender bought the bike for list, say $18k and pushed it up to the parts counter and dropped another $18k in bolt on's (I have $38,500. in receipts / build sheets).
I found the bike through a friend in his garage in 2007 with 1200 miles on it, a dead battery and about 15 minutes from being repo'd due to lack of payment on a balance of about $2100. (right)
He wanted $25,000 for it but in the end I bought the bike for less than half what the big spender paid for it and have enjoyed riding it but have always thought it was "too nice" and have only ridden it 300-400 miles a year since 2007 (It's one of four I own). I ride just not this bike.
I was in a local dealership today and saw a 2007 VRSCX CVO vrod limited to 1400 units. It's an '07 but has the 1250 revolution engine, 240 rear tire and 5 gallon tank. It's brand new, never sold or titled and it retailed in 2007 for just shy of $21k Talking to the dealer I mentioned the Fatboy and he remembered the bike (from 6 years ago) and offered me the vrod for the fatboy if I paid the fees on the transaction, about $1500-1600.
Thoughts? Should I trade the '04 Fatboy for a 2007 VRSCX? I own a second softail that I ride quite a bit, a Streetglide and an old hotrod sportster I ride more than I ride the Fatboy.

I've tried to embrace vrods several times starting with the night rod special in 2007 and until now it's never made sense to me. I tried to like the Muscle when it came out in 2009 but my legs are just a little too short for the forward controls.
Maybe it's the limited nature of this bike or that it commemorates the racing success or Porsche's involvement but this time it seems to make sense to me.

I'd make that deal. Considering you have other Harley's the V-Rod will make a nice compliment to your fleet. And even adding 18K to a base 2004 Fatboy, it still is not worth $38K!!!
That limited V-Rod is a nice bike!!
And yes a V-Rod is one of six HARLEY's I have owned.
The one thing that really gets to me about even HAVING an Harley is the "Brotherhood" crap about "real bikes" and "real harley's". There all motorcycles, some are much faster than others!!
I now own a FXDC as I have outgrown the idea that one bike is better than another, or spending more money makes it MORE of a HARLEY!
I now ride what fits my riding style!
That V-Rod is entirely differnt than any of your "other" Harleys!!
Go for it!

I am 6' 2". v-rod wasn't comfortable at all. used v-rods aren't worth a lot, even if it is new. what's on ebay?

The 2007 VRSCX isn't actually a CVO. It was a tribute to honor Harley VRod's second NHRA Championship.
Vrods only had two years of the Screaming Eagle Treatment, the VRSCSE in 2005 and the VRSCSE2 in 2006.
Not that it really matters, just thought you'd like to know. Case in point, keep the fatty. Buy the Vrod as a third, or 4th bike.
