Default Trans oil 6-speed

I currently own a 2009 Heritage Softail Classic. Reading these forums I decided to try a different oil in the tranny. After initial break-in, I changed all three holes with Syn-3. Wasn't impressed. Changed over to Ams-oil 20-50 and noticed an incredible difference. At around 5000 km I tried Ams-oil 75-90 in the transmission - which was mentioned in the forums and also was suggested at a Harley customizing shop. It came highly recommended. After about 250 km the transmission became very noisy, so I decided to drop the oil after this run. The oil had a good inch of foam, which was still there after an hour. I switched back to the 20-50 Ams-oil in the tranny and it ran quieter. Pleased with the Ams-oil 20-50. Read a lot of forums where people reccommended Spectro 6-speed transmission oil - has anyone done a test on it after coming back from a good run?

Added this spring so still working on racking miles...so far I have noticed less gear whine & smoother shifting. We'll see how she looks later when I dump the tranny...

I have used Spectro 6 speed oil in 2 scooters, one being an 09 Heritage, prolly 20,000 miles total and I will continue using it.

I use Redline Heavy and am very pleased with it. Less noise and better shifts than Harley lube.

I am also running Redline and would highly recommend it over the Amsoil. The shifting is much smoother and finding neutral is also much easier. I think it provides better lubrication and protection.

Sounds like water has gotten into your tranny through a breather hose if you had foam in it ??

I would buy a product that I can find on the road if needed such as Wally World or Autozone. Finding Amsoil or Spectro when you need it and can't find it isn't a good thing. I run Mobil 1 GL synthetic 75W-90 with no problems and very quiet running.
