Bike After Wreck
#12
i used to do crash estimates at the dealership i worked at, by the time the parts came in i had forgot all about the bike..it was like a fresh start. it took months at times..a few bikes were in the shop for 6-9-12 months before they were all done.. several times the tanks or fenders would show up scratched 2-3 times before it was rite, then the wait would start all over.. i got so sick of some parts sitting in my bay waiting to finnish and get the bikes out

Just a heads up about the painting process in a production plant . Why this stuff takes so long is because in manufacturing plant everything is timed and by the numbers so all the parts & components hit the assembly stations at the right time there's no overages this way . What has to happen is sheet metal & plastic departments have do OT or retool and build a set number of Dealer stock parts during production lulls and of coarse the same goes with paint most of that stuff is done on an automated line not by hand so regular production comes first THEN dealer repo parts . Worked the auto industry 20+ yrs and HD uses the procedures . They will batch run the repair parts about every 3-4 months on a schedule same as we did .

When I got hit, it took them about a month to get it fixed. They were dragging their feet big time, I was calling them daily to get updates. And I was getting after the insurance company who was riding them too.

When I wrecked mine it took 12 weeks for painted parts, then another 12 because something wasn't right. It was finished just in time for X-mas.
