Jets are marked but my old eyes need a magnifying glass to read the. you CAN change the jets without removing the carb from the bike. It may be easiet to drill out the plug with the carb off, but with a right-angle drill it can be done.

I changed mine with out removing the carb from the bike ('01 Dyna).

And the thunderjet kit is a rip-off, from what I've been told.

If you're just enriching the a/f mixture (Stage 1) all you need are a couple .050 brass washers, IIRC and a # 45 jet. < $5.00

Do a search on this forum, there's an excellent thread with diagrams of the Keihin carb. Shows exactly what you need to do.

You will open a can of worms. Why are you wanting to rejet? The bike has been running for 19 years?

Drag pipes are impossiable to tune.Air fuel screw will have to be backed out at least three turns, put in a 27094-88 needle in and try that first. That worked on my 88 it should do the trick on your Sporster.Decel pop is normal if you don't have much in the way of a muffler, even if you do there will be some.

Come on??? Drag pipes are impossible to tune???? Seriously???
They are as simple to tune as ANY other pipes. Pop on decel is NOT any more normal with drags. Yes, you probably have to be rejet. Not sure what size comes stock on an 883, but if its say a 42, then a 45 or 46 low speed jet should work fine. Many of the sporty guys claim the high speed (main) jet that comes from the factory on Sportys is fine, so leave it for right now. As stated, you need to drill out the soft plug on the bottom of the carb to get to the mixture screw. Then once you get the jet in, start by turning that mixture screw you just exposed all the way in and GENTLY seating it. Then back it out 2 1/2 turns. Then keep opening it up in 1/4 turns till it STOPS popping and back firing. Somewhere between 2 3/4 and 3 1/4 ought to be about where you'll end up. Play with it, ride it and adjust. Thats all there is to it.

This is the sporty rejet bible.

just take the carb off the bike it's really not that hard and to do it right it'll be a lot easier with the carb off. takes 20 minutes to get the carb off tops.

i just rejetted my fatboy with a dynojet kit (wanted to do it right i paid $90 for a needle, spring, a few washers, and a couple main jets awesome, not one of my shining moments).

my bike runs like total s*** now, barely starts after sitting for a while after being ran (thinking rich), so i lean it out a bit and it won't idle for s*** and sounds like garbage... i can't figure this carb out on my 88. the sporty was easy, the fatboy runs like complete garbage after the dynojet kit.

probably just going to buy an S&S carb and get it professionally tuned so i can enjoy my bike again.
