There's a few bikes that park near mine.
Look at the bright side -- even though he's a douchebag, his suggestion is sound. Get your expensive helmet out of the weather and keep it safe by taking it into your workplace.

It's a win-win for you.

When I go to work, I lock my helmet D-ring to the right mirror every day with one of those TSA Luggage combination locks. So anyway, I get off work today, go down to the bike and there's a sticky note under my helmet that reads verbatim "You're brave for leaving your helmet here. I might use it next time I see it."

I guess he didn't see it was locked or maybe he did since the note was under the helmet. I thought about writing back how much of a douche he is for even thinking about stealing it, but I really don't want to provoke someone to come back with bolt cutters and yank it.

What would you do?

Did you think maybe he's a rider as well, or a good friend, just giving you a heads up that you have a nice helmet, someone ''might want'' and he's trying to save you some pain??

+6... 'take it with'

Hell I bring my $60 beanie in to work with me. I only leave my lid on my bike when I am gioing in a pub, resturante, bar, or shop. I usually only leave it for a short while as well. If I am going to be inside for more that a couple hours i take it with me. Or if i am somewhere dodgy i take it with me.

You did well...
Didn't write a note back.
Locked your helmet.
Yes, some FF are expensive and very nicely painted; it could be of value to steal.

With the D lock, one could still cut the strap (renders helmet useless...but they are douches anyway) so maybe a (cumbersome) U Shape Kryptonite lock around the chin bar of the ff helmet would be a better locking solution

I think a coworker or friend is busting your chops. It's difficult for me to understand why someone would want to do that. There are some odd people in this world though.

I would vacation the next two days off, show up and sit somewhere i can watch. when dumbass shows up, i would video tape it. if he works at the same location, confront him about it. if he was another biker, or even someone i knew, then let the games begin. start messing with him. leave notes on his car. i had a guy at work once mess with my bike. he left a baby bottle on my seat under my bike cover and a note saying the baby needed a bottle after it was wrapped up in its "blankie"

so i left a note on his car saying i knew he was banging my wife and i was going to hunt him down and slash his throat. the guy panicked.

i heard from mutual friends that the guy believed a husband had mistaken him for someone else that must have been having an affair with his wife. he wanted security to escort him to and from the parking lot. i scared the carp out of this guy. i still smile to this day when i think about it.

Take your helmet in with you and be appreciative for the warning.
+1 - I'm agreeing with this. A friendly warning, maybe. It's nothing to snap a mirror stem and take off with your helmet. Either take it in with you or come up with a more secure system.

A pain I know, but since no one respects an individual's rights or property anymore that's the way it is.

My buddy works at a shop and they refuse to sell any d-rings/straps to anybody without a receipt.
